OpenTable unveils 2022’s Top 50 Most Romantic Restaurants in the UK, just in time for Valentine’s Day
- Newcastle and Northumberland and Yorkshire dominate the Top 50 list with each region taking 10% of the most romantic restaurants
- British cuisine comes out on top, making up 26% of this year’s restaurant list, followed by European (16%)
- The Top 50 most romantic list is compiled from more than 1million verified OpenTable diner reviews collected between 1st January 2021 and 31st December 2021
LONDON, UK – 7th February 2022: OpenTable, is celebrating Valentine’s Day by releasing its list of the top 50 most romantic restaurants in the UK, based on more than 1 million verified OpenTable diner reviews collected in 2021. The Top 50 covers a wide range of cuisines, from Argentinian restaurant LA Boca in Yorkshire, to European restaurant Mere in London, helping diners still looking for that perfect Valentine’s Day experience to discover and book the right restaurant.
British food (26%) continues to be the most highly represented cuisine in the Top 50 above its main competitor, Modern European (16%), as couples enjoy tastes from closer to home. However, other categories have been seen as a more popular choice in certain regions, with Italian, French and Steakhouses each claiming 6% in the Top 50 list.
Couples in Newcastle & Northumberland, and Yorkshire, looking for the perfect place to celebrate Valentine’s Day are in luck, with 10 of the Top 50 collectively being found in the two regions. However, the cuisines represented by the respective regions tell a different story. Newcastle residents prefer the more popular cuisine of British and French, whilst those living in Yorkshire enjoy South American with Favela Brazilian Grill and LA Boca being on the list, along with the beloved gastropub, Shibden Mill Inn.

OpenTable’s 50 Most Romantic Restaurants in the UK is generated solely from more than 1,000,000 verified OpenTable diner reviews collected between 1st January 2021 and 31st December 2021. All restaurants with a minimum “overall” score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. The overall score is made up of unique data points, such as overall diner rating, user klout, total number of reviews, and regional overall rating. Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the percentage of reviews, for which ‘romantic’ was selected as a special feature.
