Mother of all Meals: Brits make up for lost time with more than 70% of the nation planning to treat their Mum to a meal out next weekend

  • Following two “at home” Mother’s Days as a result of the pandemic, data from OpenTable shows a 53%* increase in reservations compared to 2019
  • Survey unveils that, on average, UK consumers are planning to spend £64** on their Mums this year

LONDON, UK – 16th March 2022: UK mums are in for a treat: OpenTable has seen a 53% increase in Mother’s Day reservations compared to pre-pandemic 2019. And, with two years of “at home” celebrations, Brits are keen to make up for lost time: according to a recent survey, 74% of the nation plans to spoil their mums with a special meal this Mother’s Day. OpenTable has released a list of the Top 50 restaurants for brunch and Sunday lunch in the UK to give diners inspiration on where to book, based on more than 1.2m verified OpenTable diner reviews.

 

With Brits planning an extra special treat for their Mum this Mother’s Day, it’s no surprise that people are thinking of forking out this Mother’s Day.  A recent survey found that the average Brit is planning to spend £64 on their Mums, despite growing concerns over the cost of living. 

 

The new research also reveals that Glasgow is one of the regions most keen to visit a restaurant this Mother’s Day, with nearly half (46%) planning on dining out. Furthermore, the survey revealed that the average Glasweegan expects to spend £87 on their mum this year, more than any other city in the UK. Luckily, three of OpenTable’s Top 50 Best Restaurants for Brunch and Sunday Lunch in the UK can be found in Glasgow and Lanarkshire, providing plenty of options for every budget.

For the third of Brits (33%) looking to try somewhere new for food and drinks this Mother’s Day, OpenTable’s Top 50 list comes at the perfect time. London topped OpenTable’s Top 50 Best Restaurants for Brunch and Sunday Lunch, with a total of eight restaurants including Old Crompton Brasserie and Ham Yard Bar and Restaurant. Yorkshire comes in second, with four dining locations, including Muse and Ate’ O Clock making the list.

All restaurants with a minimum “overall” score and number of qualifying reviews were included for consideration. The overall score is made up of unique data points, such as overall diner rating, user klout, total number of reviews, and regional overall rating. Qualifying restaurants were then scored and sorted according to the percentage of reviews for which “good for brunch” and “good for lunch” was selected as a special feature.
